Sechelt at a Glance
Centrally located in the Sunshine
Coast, Sechelt, British Columbia,
is considered one of the economic and cultural hubs in this area. The name Sechelt
(literally translated as land between two waters) refers to its position wedged
in between the Sechelt Inlet and Trail Bay. Sechelt's temperate climate appeals
to visitors, as does its numerous attractions, including the House
of Hewhiwus, a cultural centre dedicated to the history of the local First
Nations bands, and the Festival
of Written Arts, which attracts some of Canada's top authors. A haven for
birdwatchers, the charm of Sechelt is not only evident in its picturesque beaches
such as Trail
Bay Beach, but also in the natural beauty of the surrounding mountains and
their abundant creeks and waterfalls. Sechelt is situated near several important
wilderness areas, including Spipiyus
Provincial Park, which is home to some of the country's oldest trees, and
Sechelt
Inlets Marine Provincial Park, which offers excellent wreck diving opportunities
and the chance to view original Native Petroglyphs.
